The Teysha Guide To Austin

Welcome to Austin

Austin, TX seems to be on the tip of everyone’s tongue these days, topping of all the “best cities to live in” lists, drawing people with its BBQ, weird spirit, and endless supply of live music.  Where else in the country can you find a convergence of hipsters, tech-ies, eccentrics, fashionitas, musicians.. and bats.

For Team Teysha, no matter what the changes growth brings, it will always be home sweet home and our mecca of Weird and inspiration.

Pretty much year round, we always joke that the order of activities is Swim / Eat / Dance -- with our usually warm weather and plentiful swimming and places to play and be active, Austin magically strikes the balance between a playful city and one who loves to indulge in the many culinary feasts around town. You can work off all those tacos on the dance floor or the town lake trail.

We begin our Austin journey on South First Street.

-Bouldin Creek Cafe -- One of our all-time favorite places to eat, the menu is bursting with the most flavorful and abundant vegetarian + vegan options. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but our favorites are the - Wanna BLT Sandwich, Breakfast Sammy with the tofu scramble, Tofu + Broccoli Salad, and the omelets. Perfect place for a breakfast or lunch that will leave you ready to take on the day!

-Melizzo’s Tacos -- It’s a tough decision between the tortas served with garlic fries, and the tacos. Go halve-sies with a friend and get the best of both worlds! We recommend the mushroom or shrimp torta, the ‘shroom taco, the Migas taco, and the El Cruz taco. The tacos taste best with a cold Topo Chico or High Brew Coffee. If you somehow magically have room left after this meal, you can pop over to Gordoughs and get the biggest and best doughnut masterpiece of your life.

-El Primo -- A humble yet always reliable taco truck a few blocks south of us on S 1st. After consuming hundreds of tacos in their first months all over Austin, DK ranks Primo (or as they say in Panama, Mopri!) at the top. Rrricooo!!

-La Mexicana Bakery -- Tacos, Mexican pastries, and money transfers all in one place! The ladies at La Mexicana give you just what you need -- quick, tasty, and cheap tacos, with no frills.

-Elizabeth St. Cafe -- be prepared to swoon. Each and every detail of this cafe is gasp-worthy and heart melting. We come here to be refreshed and inspired. The food ain’t so bad, either. We love the tofu or fried egg and pork belly bahn mi, and the bun bowls. Their vietnamese coffee is just what you need for a pick-me-up. And for brunch, the Red Dragon punch is a must.

-Polvo’s -- Polvo’s is our favorite spot to gather groups of friends and indulge in the deliciousness. We highly recommend going family style here, and ordering the fish fajitas, queso with everything in it, enchiladas with poblano sauce, and of course, a pitcher (or three) of margaritas.

-Lenoir -- Our favorite neighbors, Todd and Elizabeth of Lenoir make dining an absolute treat. And not just because they’re always rocking their Teysha shoes :) Consistently voted at the top of all the “best of” lists, the small but mighty Lenoir is a must do! Their ever-changing Prix-Fixe menu always brings surprises. They also have a lovely wine-garden in the back under the big trees and a great happy hour menu.

- The Soup Peddler -- Mobile food service success story with multiple Austin locations, visit their permanent spot on S 1st and Mary! Amazing fresh and wholesome soups, juices, and smoothies!

-Alcomar -- From the El Chile family, this fresh and lovely seafood spot is a bit more high-end. Delicious and well decorated.

-Sway -- Stunning interiors and excellent thai style food. The massive, communal style tables make for a lovely atmosphere. We love the lettuce wraps.

-Seventh Flag Coffee -- We love hanging out here, whether at the picnic tables outside or the well designed inside. Great staff and delicious coffee.

-Le Patisserie -- Another place that we go to firstly because it’s  just so cute, and they also have great coffee and lovely sweets.

-Dolce Neve Gelato -- A dangerous neighbor to have… their fresh and delightful gelato is a Teysha team favorite. Lovely interior for hanging out on a hot day!

- Art for the People -- Another lovely Teysha neighbor, Art for the People specializes in showcasing an epic assortment of local and regional artists, as well as carefully curated accessories and more.

Other Teysha team favorites beyond S. 1st Street --

Work off all those tacos + delicious treats at the Town Lake trail, Barton Springs, or Deep Eddy. Every great day starts or ends at one of these in-town natural sanctuaries!
